Anthropic unveiled Claude Duet on October 21, 2026, a standalone AI agent app built around Opus 5.5 and designed for professionals and small business owners. Duet is a proactive agent: instead of waiting for prompts, it monitors a user's connected apps, sends a short morning brief on what needs attention, checks those apps every few hours, and surfaces items as they arise. It can schedule meetings, build financial forecasts and web apps, and work in the cloud on its own virtual machine while the user's own devices are off. It is available on iOS, Android and claude.ai through a waitlisted research preview for US subscribers on the Pro and Max plans, sharing their existing usage limits.

Duet connects to more than 6,000 connectors in the Claude Marketplace, including Gmail and Slack, and can make purchases through Stripe Link and Shop Pay. Anthropic says Duet asks for user approval before sensitive actions such as sending a message, making a payment, signing a document or deleting a file, and that it does not see passwords or logins when given access to accounts. Anthropic also concedes the agent can misjudge urgency and is weaker at personal tasks such as booking tickets. With Duet, all three frontier labs now offer an always-on proactive agent, following OpenAI's Dots and Meta's Muse.
