The University of Copenhagen said on Friday, October 23, 2026 that hackers gained access to information on approximately 525,000 individuals. The intruders entered one of its test environments, the attack was detected on Tuesday, October 20, and access has been blocked. The database contains full names, Danish civil registration numbers (CPR numbers), work telephone numbers, home telephone numbers and personal email addresses. The university says there is no indication the hackers reached systems supporting day to day operations, and no evidence its activities or operations were affected.

The university says it is still analysing the precise extent of the data breach, has reported the incident to the Danish Data Protection Agency, and is handling the case under the GDPR. It has not specified which groups of people are affected or who was behind the attack. The Minister for Societal Security and Preparedness, Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen, said in a written comment to Ritzau that the incidents at Copenhagen and Aarhus University underline that the cyber threat against Denmark is serious.
