Walmart announced on October 21, 2026, through CEO John Furner at the Masters of Scale Summit, an Agent Gateway and Agent Profiles for AI shopping agents. The Gateway is an MCP server, in beta for companies and developers, that lets approved agents search Walmart and Sam's Club inventory and buy on a customer's behalf without receiving the customer's personal data or purchase history. Agent Profiles, arriving within a month, give each agent its own space in the customer account, with separate purchase history, per purchase approval or a spending limit, no access to payment card information, and deletion at any time. No Walmart+ membership is required.

Walmart says agents that break its terms will be blocked, agents may not act beyond the shopper's stated intent or take more data than a task needs, and normal returns apply to agent orders. The launch is a direct split with Amazon, which has begun blocking third party AI shopping agents from buying on its store.
