AWS ships TorchNeuron, an open source PyTorch backend for Trainium
Amazon Web Services has released TorchNeuron, an open source PyTorch backend for its Trainium chips, announced October 19, 2026 with public beta from October 20. TorchNeuron registers AWS Trainium2 and Trainium3 chips as a native PyTorch device, so existing PyTorch code runs with a configuration change rather than a rewrite; it is released under Apache 2.0 at the PyTorch Conference, supports eager execution, torch.compile and distributed training, and Hugging Face has added native Trainium support.
Amazon says it tests against hundreds of thousands of models per build and names more than 30 early customers; those performance and adoption figures are Amazon's own.
