Nikkei discloses cloud-service breach affecting about 1.83 million records
Nikkei Inc. disclosed on October 16, 2026 that about 1.83 million personal data records were leaked after unauthorized access to an external cloud service the company uses for system development. The access took place in the early hours of October 7 using stolen authentication credentials. About 1.68 million of the records do not contain information that could identify individuals on their own; the remaining roughly 150,000 may include names, email addresses, addresses, and phone numbers.
The company said no secondary damage from the leaked information and no suspension of its systems has been confirmed. This incident is separate from the employee Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 account compromises Nikkei disclosed on October 4.
