Replit makes OpenAI its default; CEO says it stopped working with Anthropic, a claim insiders dispute
Replit CEO Amjad Masad said onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt that Replit is no longer working with Anthropic and that OpenAI is now the default for Replit Agent, citing cost, partnership, and performance, and Replit's own benchmarks in which OpenAI's Sol and Astra beat Claude on building apps from scratch. Replit had been, until recently, a top five Anthropic customer. Masad later clarified that Claude remains available and Replit is model agnostic, but OpenAI is now its preferred partner, and since most users keep the default, Anthropic's Replit revenue is likely to fall sharply.
Coverage so far rests on a single source, TechCrunch's own reporting from Disrupt; a person familiar with the partnership told TechCrunch the partnership is still in place, which TechCrunch reported in the same article. This item will be updated as Anthropic or Replit documents the arrangement independently.
